About me

I've already mentioned the main things about myself in the box to the right, but I'll give you a few more details:

What I do

I'm a student at Durham University, studying physics in my fourth and final year. In my spare time I talk about the wedding with my fiancee, go to church, create websites, take photos, listen to music and play ultimate frisbee.

Web stuff

I started learning to create websites in the summer of 2008, and quickly developed a purist mentality towards design. I'm involved in the design and development of commercial and church websites on a fairly regular basis. I write in XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Javascript and XML.

Church stuff

I'm a Christian, and that means more to me than going to church on a Sunday. God gives us hope in an age where there is nothing to hope for, and loves everyone more than we could ever believe or understand. I do a lot of stuff with my local church in Durham, Emmanuel, and in Worcester, Hope Church.

Photography stuff

I love taking photos of landscapes, and the odd abstract, and have since 2004 when I got my first Digital SLR (Fuji S1). I now use a Nikon D70, generally equipped with an 18-70mm lens.

Music stuff

I play the cello, guitar, drums, and bass guitar, and sometimes get to do some recording. I listen to a huge range of music, such as classical, rock, prog, jazz, electronic, blues and ambient. I dislike boring music, which rules out most (but not all) of the stuff produced today, so my era of choice is the 70's.

Hi, I'm Jon Cairns

I'm a web designer and graphic designer who likes to create good-looking, accessible websites with XHTML, CSS, AJAX and PHP. I'm also a musician, photographer and student, and I live in Durham, up north in the UK. The Great Synchronisation

A few minutes ago I was sitting on a sofa with nothing to do, thinking, "maybe it's time for my annual blog entry". You may be wondering whether you should bother reading something that's been created simply because I had nothing better to do, but I submit to you that all good things are created that way. Think about it.
